Our Story
Restock Canada was founded in 2013 with a clear objective: to build a structured and reliable inventory recovery platform for the Canadian market.
We began as a small team operating out of a 1,000 sq ft space, initially reselling returned and excess inventory through online marketplaces. Early growth was strong, but operating in consumer marketplaces revealed important structural challenges — strict platform rules, operational complexity, and unpredictable profitability driven by inconsistent sourcing.
At the time, most inventory was acquired through auctions. While volumes were available, supply was volatile. Some weeks brought strong margins; others introduced quality variability and pricing uncertainty. As the business expanded, it became clear that long-term stability required a different approach.
A Strategic Pivot
Between 2016 and 2019, we made several pivotal strategic decisions:
- We transitioned from consumer resale to a fully wholesale-focused model
- We launched www.restock.ca as a dedicated transactional platform
- We moved away from auction-based sourcing
- We secured recurring, direct supply agreements with major Canadian retailers
In 2019, we made a defining decision: to fully exit all consumer operations and dedicate the company exclusively to wholesale distribution.
Our Core Principles
This decision was driven by two core principles. First, we believed we should never compete directly with our own customers. Second, we did not want to selectively retain higher-value inventory for internal resale while offering the remainder to our buyers. By focusing entirely on wholesale, we ensured alignment, transparency and fairness across our entire customer base.
The impact was immediate: improved inventory rotation, greater assortment consistency and more predictable operations.
Growth and Infrastructure
As volumes increased, our infrastructure evolved accordingly. We expanded from 1,000 sq ft to 12,500 sq ft, and in 2020 relocated to our current 60,000 sq ft facility in Montreal to support long-term growth.
In the years that followed, we strengthened direct retail partnerships, expanded into large-format and specialized product categories, and built a national logistics footprint across key Canadian markets.
Today
Now, Restock Canada operates as a fully digital, structured reverse logistics platform. With over 25 employees and thousands of active buyers nationwide, we continue to refine our systems, strengthen our partnerships and prioritize disciplined growth.
